Metropolis is a 1927 expressionist science-fiction silent film directed by Fritz Lang. It is regarded as a pioneer work in the area of science fiction movies. Made in Germany, Metropolis is set in a futuristic urban dystopia. It was filmed in 1925, and it was the most expensive film ever released up to that point. More info

Movie plot:
In the future, wealthy industrialists rule the vast city of Metropolis from high-rise tower complexes, while a lower class of underground-dwelling workers - aka "minions" - toil constantly to operate the machines that provide its power.

Based on that I created this artwork where Metropolis is a building/city/state.

At left:
The bottom part art is where the minions work, in the infrastructure.
They are supporting the whole building.

At left:
In the middle there is an elevator, which connects the bottom (the workers) to the top of the tower (the elite or ruling class).
At right:
The "Master of Time" - he seems to be benevolent but he wears a mask--Who knows his face?
He watches the minions and controls their time.
Bottom:
Outside of the building are the blue areas - a chain is delimiting the area which is "exclusive" and cannot be trespassed upon. There are the Moon, the stars, buildings, lights, and signs of a happy life and comfort.

Bottom line, comfort and other pleasantries are delivered due to someone's efforts behind the scenes.
We are unaware of how many people work in difficult conditions to allow us to a in live a modern and even healthy lifestyle.
